New Production of 'The Knife of Dawn' at Dutch National Opera

A new production of Hannah and Tessa McWatt's 2016 opera, The Knife of Dawn, will be presented by Dutch National Opera in March as part of Opera Forward Festival 2026, directed by Gavin-Viano. A chamber opera in one act, The Knife of Dawn is based on the story of Guyanese political activist and poet Martin Carter. It is set in his prison cell towards the end of a hunger strike in 1953. Sakhiwe Mkosana will perform the role of Martin Carter. Robert Kahn conducts. Four performances will take place in the Dutch National Opera & Ballet's Studio Boekman 14-18 March.
